Violet Kruger – 2022 TCC Operator of the Year

The Utility Manager of a village drinking water system is not an easy job. It is often part of another job that includes book keeping or administration. With a good manager a drinking water utility struggles with finances, ordering and paying for parts and supplies, and compliance with State regulations. This past year Violet has been a key player in the coordination of a multi-agency response to a crisis with their water treatment plant.

A control system that is nearly obsolete failed so that their primary well had to be operated manually. Finding a replacement and funding took good coordination between the village, ANTHC, VSW, TCC, and a contractor. She has assisted the operator in communicating crucial information to the agencies and has maintained open communication with stakeholders. She was also recommended for this award by the State Rural Utility Business Advisors who provide technical assistance on utility management to village utilities. For these reasons and in recognition of her service to her community, we would like to present Violet Kruger from Nulato with the “Utility Manager” of the year award.
