UTHC FIRE WATER LINE REPAIR
RFQ for EXCAVATION SERVICES
PREPARED BY THE Tanana Chiefs Conference FACILITIES DEPARTMENT
April 19, 2023
DESCRIPTION
The fire protection system for the Upper Tanana Health Clinic (UTHC) located in Tok is supplied from a well and well house located on the property. The water for the fire suppression system is piped from the well hose to the UTHC in a 6” HDPE foam insulated pipe. Freeze protection is provided with a 1” PEX recirculation line. In late March 2023 the line broke. This RFQ is to request proposals to provide excavation, fill, re bedding of the exposed water line once the appropriate repairs have been made and the line hydro tested, and back fill and compact the excavation to match the existing grade. Tanana Chiefs Conference can provide the approximate location of the break. All work must be covered under a one year warranty. Please contact Jeffery Murtiff jeffery.murtiff@tannachiefs.org via email with any questions. Please provide a proposal to Jeffery Murtiff via email by May 5, 2023, 1PM AST. Tanana Chiefs Conference reserves the right to accept or reject any and all proposals. Bid preference will be given to Alaskan Native or Native American owned businesses .
SCOPE
- Coordinate all activities with the Tanana Chiefs Conference or its representatives on site.
- Provide utility (electrical, communications, domestic water piping) location services.
- Provide traffic barricades and safety cones around the excavation site.
- Expose completely the location of the break in the 6” HDPE. Provide the required space to make the repairs requested by the mechanical subcontractor. This will require excavating approximately 80 to 133 cubic yards of fill. The cubic yards determined to be required to be excavated were based on a the repairs requiring a 4’ wide by 30’ to 50’ ditch, to a depth 9’ below grade for a distance of 30’ to 50’. Provisions were made for shouldering the banks of the ditch to meet OSHA regulations.
- Provide assistance to the mechanical contractor while they are on site making repairs.
- After completion of repairs and testing, re foam the repaired joints.
- The backfill procedure will be as follows;
- Bed and cover the exposed 6” HDPE insulated pipe with 6” of sand.
- Use excavated soils to refill the trench in 6” lifts. Each lift to be watered and compacted until the excavation has been filled to meet existing grade.
- Grade the excavation site to meet local drainage and to match existing grades
ADDENDUM
- Tanana Chiefs Conference is concerned that a sink hole will be discovered during the excavation, and daylighting of the 6” HDPE line. Please provide a separate proposal for 50 cubic yards of structural fill to be delivered to the site, and added to the backfill of the excavation in that event.
