Tanana Chiefs Conference acknowledges that salmon is life to our people living on the Yukon River. Our Athabascan people are resilient and have relied upon many species of animals and fish to survive and to continue our traditional way of life. Protecting subsistence is the top priority for Team TCC.
TCC staff have been working to find solutions for our tribes to ensure that their communities are able to feed their families this winter and in the years to come. We ask that our Tribes and Tribal members take our food security survey to help us better serve our people and communities. Your feedback will help us create long term solutions to ensuring alternate protein food sources into the future. Take the survey here: https://bit.ly/3hQUy0t
TCC leaders are continuing to meet with management agencies, researchers and community experts. TCC recognizes the importance of traditional knowledge indicators, including the lack of cotton and yellow monarch butterflies which is a traditional indicator that fish are coming up the river. We are sharing our Tribal members concerns and observations with decision makers and advocating for solutions.
TCC is committed to ensuring that our people can continue our way of life. This is our top priority and at the heart of all that we do at TCC. Our ancestors were the first to conserve for future generations and now it is our turn to conserve for the next generation.
Moving forward TCC will continue to communicate our efforts to our tribes and tribal members as we work together to provide food security to our communities during the years of low salmon runs.
