Dr. Katrin Tsigonis joined Team Deneege in September 2016. She is originally from Valdez, AK. She completed her medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine and her residency at La Crosse Mayo Family Medicine in La Crosse, WI.
Her interests include enjoying the outdoors with her family, fishing, and camping. She is the mother of four children and happily married to the TCC General Surgeon, Dr. Abraham Tsigonis.
Dr. S. (Sara) Gayle Hornberger, D.O., is a Family Medicine Physician hailing from Lake Clark National Park in Alaska. Her roots trace back to southwest Alaska, specifically Bristol Bay (Naknek) and Lake Clark National Park.
Before her medical career, Dr. Hornberger was a Journeyman Carpenter, in addition to experiences in commercial fishing, Public Safety, and firefighting/EMT/EMS roles.
Since childhood, Dr. Hornberger has harbored a desire to work for Indian Health. She pursued dual undergraduate degrees from Eastern Washington University (BA in Design) and UAF (Biochemistry) before earning her DO degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her medical journey continued with a Transitional Internship at Deaconess Hospital (Spokane) and a Family Medicine Residency at Southwest Washington (Vancouver) before returning to Fairbanks, working 4 years at Interior Neighborhood Health Center and then operating Midnight Sun Family Medicine in private practice.
In January 2021, Dr. Hornberger joined TCC as a Family Medicine Physician, and is currently the Acting Primary Care Medical Director. She’s thrilled about the opportunity to meet new people, explore new experiences, and engage with village communities. At TCC, she values the camaraderie with colleagues and the chance to make a difference in patients’ lives.
In her personal life, Dr. Hornberger finds joy in spending time with her family, friends, and animals, and pursuing hobbies like flying, hiking, skiing, sewing, painting, gardening. Spoiling her grandchildren is always a priority.
She views working at TCC as a lifelong dream realized and hopes to be a positive impact in patients’ lives and overall health.
Kate Tuma, MMS, PA-C, was born and raised in Central Wyoming. She is board-certified through NCCPA. After completing undergraduate studies in Medical Technology and Chemistry at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, she earned her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies in Denver, Colorado. Kate worked in Neurosurgery in Wyoming for three years before transitioning to Family Medicine-Obstetrics for another three years before relocating to Fairbanks, Alaska in 2018.
Kate holds a special interest in Women’s Health, Fascial Health, Regenerative and Pain Treatments, Procedural Medicine, and Aesthetic Medicine. She is committed to her patients and colleagues, to continued education, and to compassionate, holistic patient care.
Outside of work, Kate enjoys family time, yoga, running, water sports, skiing, fishing, hunting, cooking, and reading. Strong in her Cherokee Nation heritage, she loves to participate in local tribal and art gatherings. Kate says, “I love working at TCC with my amazing colleagues and work family; I feel blessed to have such incredible patients; I love Village-based medicine; and I am grateful for the continuing educational opportunities for career growth that TCC offers.”
Angela Clark, NP, is a Nurse Practitioner practicing family medicine on Team Deneege. Originally from Utah, she has moved frequently over the last 15 years due to her marriage to an active-duty soldier. She graduated from George Washington University in DC and has over 11 years of experience in various family medicine clinics. Angela is a mother of four boys, whose activities keep her busy. Her family enjoys camping, hiking, skiing, and rock climbing together. Angela finds fulfillment in her work with TCC, particularly in traveling to villages and developing deeper connections with community members.
Dr. Tessa Hovenden was born and raised in Alaska. She pursued her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. After college, she spent about a year working as a donor technician at the Blood Bank of Alaska in Fairbanks. In 2013, she started medical school at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado. She then completed a Family Medicine Residency at Kansas University Ascension via Christi Family Medicine Program in Wichita, Kansas.
She has special interests in rural medicine, women’s health, and pediatrics. In October 2020, she joined Team Deneege at Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center. She is happily married with two children.
Dr. Wendy Lau is a family medicine physician with Team Deneege. She grew up in the Los Angeles area, where she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and her medical degree at the University of Southern California (USC). She completed her residency at St. Peter Family Medicine in Olympia, WA. Thereafter, she practiced for several years in Washington State before making the move to Fairbanks, AK, where she is excited to deliver excellent care to Alaska Natives of all ages, both in Fairbanks and in Alaska interior villages.
In her spare time, she enjoys running, baking, knitting, and spending time with her husband, dog, and two cats.
