TCC Congratulates Tanana on IHS Land Transfer

On October 27, Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) leadership, which included Chief/Chairman Brian Ridley, Vice-President Sharon Hildebrand, and Secretary/Treasurer Charlie Wright, traveled to Tanana to participate in the Annual Shareholders meeting alongside First Chief Julie Roberts-Hyslop, Second Chief Curtis Sommer, and the local community. The Native Village of Tanana recently achieved a successful negotiation with the Indian Health Services (IHS) for the transfer of land back to the Tribe. This land will be designated for the future construction of a new clinic for the community.

TCC gifted the Tribe with a framed photo of the 1915 meeting between the Tanana Chiefs and Judge Wickersham. “I hope that when you look at this image that you are reminded of how far we have come as Native people and the strength that we have when we work together,” said Vice-President Hildebrand, “We are proud to see your Tribe exercise its tribal sovereignty and working toward goals that will benefit the people in your community. I hope you enjoy this gift and are able to find a good spot to display it in your new clinic.”

Tanana is developing plans for the construction process.
