Despite widespread national and Tribal opposition, Senator Dan Sullivan has inserted an amendment in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to force the approval of the Ambler Road Access Project. This amendment disregards scientific findings, Traditional Knowledge, and the voices of numerous Tribes and community members. The Ambler Road poses significant risks to the environment, subsistence resources, and the cultural heritage of Alaska Native communities. We need your help to act now and oppose this destructive project.
The time to act is NOW

Petition to Oppose the Ambler Road and Senator Sullivan’s Amendment
We stand united in opposition to Senator Dan Sullivan’s amendment in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would legislatively force the approval of the Ambler industrial road in Alaska. This proposed 211-mile road through Gates of the Arctic National Preserve poses a significant threat to Alaska’s environment, wildlife, and the cultural heritage of Alaska Native communities.
The Ambler Road would:
- Permanently disrupt the lives and subsistence practices of over 30 Alaska Native communities.
- Cause irreversible damage to critical habitats, including those of Arctic caribou, sheefish, and salmon.
- Bypass essential environmental protections established by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), setting a dangerous precedent for future projects.
- Serve the interests of international mining companies over the well-being of Alaska’s land and people, with no clear national security benefit.
The Biden administration’s decision to adopt the “No Action” Alternative in June 2024 was based on robust scientific analysis, Traditional Knowledge, and extensive consultation with Tribes. This decision reflects the collective will of the people, who have overwhelmingly spoken out against the Ambler Road.
We urge you to respect this decision and reject any attempt to override it through legislative means. Senator Sullivan’s amendment ignores the widespread opposition from Alaska Native communities, conservationists, and the general public. It is a reckless attempt to bypass the very laws designed to protect our environment and ensure informed decision-making.
We call on you to:
- Oppose the inclusion of Senator Sullivan’s amendment in the final version of the NDAA.
- Uphold the environmental protections guaranteed by NEPA and other bedrock laws.
- Protect Alaska’s lands, waters, and cultural heritage from the destructive impacts of the Ambler Road.
By signing this petition, we affirm our commitment to preserving Alaska’s natural beauty, safeguarding subsistence resources, and respecting the voices of Alaska Native communities. We ask that you stand with us in opposing this harmful project.
