Continuous Staff Development
In October, Head Start brought all of our employees to Fairbanks for an in-person training from the 13th to the 17th. We provided additional training on various skills related to social emotional growth and handling difficult behaviors. It was a very busy but fun week, and it’s always wonderful to see our village staff face-to-face.
Celebrating the Winter Holidays
In October, Head Start provided pumpkins to each of our enrolled families for Halloween. In November, we were able to provide turkeys for Thanksgiving dinners to all enrolled families and staff in Head Start. We’re very happy to say that in December, we will be able to provide ham dinners for Christmas for all enrolled families and staff as well.
Assessment Highlights
In November of 2022, we assessed all of our Head Start children in many areas including their developing language skills. That first assessment showed that 26.98% of our children were scoring below what we would expect to see for their ages in language skills, while 69.84% were meeting and 3.17% were exceeding these developmental expectations. In the spring, after months of hard work on the parts of the children, families and Head Start educators, only 6.3% of our kids scored below where we’d expect to see them for their ages, 75.5% were meeting these goals and 8.2% were exceeding them!

TCC Head Start has teamed up with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library! Every month, enrolled children from the ages of birth to 5 will get a free age-appropriate book! Reading together is a wonderful way to build a lifelong love for reading with children and to promote family time.
