General Resources Links

  • FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is key for adaptation grants related to construction. Grants are highly complex and you usually need to hire a grant writer, but this site provides some basics. Tribes can apply directly to FEMA if they have their own hazard mitigation plan (HMP) or a joint plan with the city and the plan has been updated in the last five years.
  • State of Alaska Grants The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management passes through a lot of FEMA money. The advantage to applying through the State is that the State will pay the cost share; however, a tribe must compete with many other sub applicants.
  • The Bureau of Indian Affairs, Tribal Climate Resilience Program provides small amounts of funding for planning and data gathering efforts.
  • US Climate Resilience Toolkit The U.S. Climate Resilient Toolkit has examples of adaptation from other communities.
  • Pacific Northwest Tribal Climate Change Guide,University of Oregon.
